It’s a story of how God can take a curse and turn it into a blessing. In my case, He took a lifelong, painful struggle with stuttering and turned it into something He could use.
God created me (and you) exactly how He wanted us to be. The Bible says that He carefully knitted each one of us together in our mothers’ wombs. His plan for us is custom fitted for how He made us. It is no surprise to God that I have a speech defect. And yet, He has called me to be a speaker. Ha, how’s that for a sense of humor? But this wasn’t the first time God has chosen a person who stutters to be His spokesperson. Just read the story of Moses in the Bible. And like Moses, I also have tried to run from God. Tried to hide from Him. And I have argued with God over how ridiculous it is to use me as a speaker. I have come to learn that it is only through surrender that you can be free.
You probably have a struggle too. It may not look exactly like mine. It may be hidden much more than mine. But we all have stuff. And sometimes this stuff, this baggage, tries to get in the way of us becoming who we were created to be. This is my stuff. Maybe you can draw some parallels to your life by hearing the journey I have gone through.
Whether speaking or writing, hopefully my message is clear: through our weakness…He is strong! To Him be all glory and praise now and forever.
